The 1940 United States census is the sixteenth decennial federal population census. This page is a collection guide, not evidence for any individual until a specific schedule image and citation have been examined.
Coverage notes
The 1940 population schedules are publicly available through NARA and digitization partners. The population schedules are the relevant publicly released individual census schedules for ordinary household research. Housing and agriculture schedules were taken but later destroyed and were not microfilmed for eventual public release. U.S. Census Bureau, Public Census Records
